I am always criticized of being cynical about things around. Maybe that’s how my brain is wired. So I did some googling and found some nice articles with great statistics India@62 After all people believe statistics, even though Des McHale calculated that “The average human has one breast and one testicle”.
Cynicism is a hard habit to suppress. But then you wonder how is it possible that we believe all these statistics when the media (all forms) exposes scam over scam almost on daily basis. Some of the tax that we have been paying it seems is being used to get the cars, the treadmills required for the CWG at an exaggerated prices, and then some is going to the pad-yatra security, arrangements etc that our GREAT leaders take so often. Whatever remains is used up to build statues and special roads around the politicians’ residence: If only yeddyurappa were our neighbor! But what right do we have to complain. They are after all our own elected representatives right. The best among us! The leaders… I think it says a lot about us.
Next Sunday is our 63rd year of Independence. We have definitely come a long way and stand as the statistics says the 12th biggest economy (even though that has to feed the second largest population). I was watching the movie “The Legend of Bhagat Singh” again yesterday and a thought came to me. These people Bhagat Singh, Raj Guru, Batukeshwar Datt, Sukhdev and all were really intelligent kids. They could have joined the existing British Rule as some big officers or bankers etc and really had a peaceful life. Why did have to take the pain of fasting for more than 50 days in jail just to get the basic necessities like good food and clean clothing? What motivated them to bring about that revolution? It really hard to understand since our history books (the ones that we read as part of curriculum) have a lot of facts like dates, place, names etc but what about the ideology? What made them stop talking and start doing? We need the answer to this question more than ever now. All we do is blog about it, tweet about it or start an online community to support a cause. So all we do is TALK. So I can very safely say that we are a TALKING GENERATION. We have come a long long way, but I guess it’s backwards. We are empowered with so much information now thanks to the technology, but what we do is just talk. Until the shit that has hit the fan, comes on your face nothing needs to done and if the shit hits you, well bad luck nothing can be done about it now. The shit is already on your face!
This blog will go down my memory as something written in disgust about myself, about the feeling of being helpless even though the statistics say otherwise.
